Beyond Classrooms Kingston
BGC South East now operates Beyond Classrooms Kingston which transforms learning by moving students out of the traditional classroom and into a community space—like a museum, gallery, or City Hall—for an entire week. This unique approach encourages curiosity, creativity, and deeper connections to Kingston’s cultural heritage.
Working closely with BCK, teachers design a week-long program that supports their year-long teaching goals, with a focus on inquiry, critical thinking, and literacy. Students take part in hands-on workshops such as sketching and journaling, and engage directly with artifacts, experts, and the environment around them.
By slowing down the pace of learning and immersing themselves in a real-world setting, students become active citizens who explore their community in meaningful ways.
