Available Volunteer Opportunities
After-School Sports and Recreation Programs
Support fun, safe, and inclusive after-school programs from Monday to Friday, 3-6 pm, where children and youth ages 4 to 18 can learn, grow, and build friendships. Volunteers assist with recreational and creative activities, provide positive mentorship, and help foster a welcoming environment that encourages confidence and active participation. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in youth development and community programming.
STEM Programs
Support hands-on STEM programs for children and youth ages 4 to 18 that build problem-solving, critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork through structured robotics, coding, 3D design and printing, engineering challenges, and interactive science activities led by experienced educators. Programs run as weekly afterschool sessions during fall, winter, and spring terms for 8 to 12 weeks, with 1 to 3 hour sessions delivered Monday to Thursday evenings from approximately 5 to 9 pm and Saturday mornings, as well as full-day school break camps, PA Day programs, and school field trips throughout the year. Volunteers support instructors by helping students during lessons, answering questions, guiding hands-on activities, encouraging participation, fostering a positive and inclusive environment, and assisting with equipment setup and cleanup.
Literacy Programs
Support structured literacy programs focused on early intervention, school readiness, and foundational reading skills for children ages 3 to 8. Volunteers assist educators in delivering TruePhonics based lessons that strengthen phonemic awareness, decoding, fluency, and comprehension through structured instruction and play-based learning. Programs run in weekly 1-hour evening sessions during the week, Saturdays programs, and full-day camps during school breaks.
Special Events and Fund Development
Be part of the excitement by supporting community events, fundraisers, and celebrations that bring people together. Volunteers assist with event setup, guest engagement, and activity coordination while representing BGC South East in a professional and welcoming manner. This flexible opportunity helps strengthen programs for local youth while connecting you to the broader community.
1:1 In-School or Club-Based Mentor
Make a lasting difference by building a supportive one-on-one mentoring relationship with a child or youth. Mentors provide encouragement, guidance, and positive role modeling that helps participants build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills. This deeply rewarding role creates meaningful connections with lasting impact.
